Medequip puts the focus on inclusivity in sport
Harmondsworth, 14th October 2024
Inclusive sport provides invaluable ways to transform attitudes about people with disabilities, demonstrating strengths and skills and effectively reshaping assumptions to show people with disabilities for their abilities rather than their limitations.
Medux Group company Medequip, the UK’s leading supplier of community equipment services, has an established track record for supporting disability sports. Medequip has sponsored Wakefield Trinity Community Foundation for the past three years, contributing to their extensive programme using the power of Rugby League and physical activity to inspire the community and create lasting legacies.
Earlier this year, Medequip announced a shirt sponsorship deal for the England Community Lions PDRL (Physical Disability Rugby League). PDRL is a full contact version of the game, adapted for participants with a physical disability who want to access a running version of Rugby League. The England Lions PDRL squad is drawn from foundations linked to five UK Super League clubs.
Rugby Football League (RFL) is the governing body for rugby league in England. Director of Participation and Development, Marc Lovering, stated:
We at the RFL are thrilled to announce our new partnership with Medequip.
” Their commitment to empowering communities aligns perfectly with our values at the RFL, and we are delighted to have them as the main shirt sponsor of our England Community Lions PDRL this season. With Medequip’s support, we are excited to enhance our visibility and participation in Rugby League, ensuring everyone has the opportunity to enjoy the sport. We look forward to proudly wearing their logo and working together to make a positive impact.”
Medequip has also announced a new partnership with Disability Sport Yorkshire to support DSY initiatives including the Activ8 Inclusive Sports Festival project. The Activ8 Inclusive Sports Festival programme is a Yorkshire initiative, funded through Sport England, The National Lottery Community Fund and the Hull & East Riding Charitable Trust. Its objective is to encourage individuals with disabilities to engage in various sporting activities, promoting physical health, social inclusion, and the joy of sport.
The partnership will also involve Medequip providing both volunteers and the use of an electric vehicle to transport equipment to and from DSY’s facility in Wakefield for Activ8 Inclusive Sports Festival events, playing an important part in helping to enhance the experience for all participants.
Medequip will also act as the official jersey sponsor for the Denhale Inclusive Sports Club. The Club will offer people with disabilities the chance to take part in a range of sporting activities, acting as the central hub for adaptive sports in the community. Medequip’s sponsorship will ensure that the club is equipped to provide an inclusive, supportive, and empowering environment.
Craig Shepherd, CEO of Disability Sport Yorkshire, commented:
We are excited to partner with Medequip, whose support is vital to the success of our inclusive sports events.
